Hello, my name is Connor Hofenbitzer and I am a senior at RHS. Over the past three years I have been able to build my knowledge as a computer scientist. During my time on Nemesis, I have learned a lot about concepts in fields I never thought I would get the opportunity to work in.
As the Head of Software on Nemesis, I have the opportunity to lead a group of my peers in writing control loops and code which ultimately runs on the competition robot. After receiving a design from the build team I write and tune control structures for each of the robot’s many subsystems.
My favorite part of every match is the autonomous period which encapsulates the first 15 seconds of every match. During this period the robot runs completely off pre-programmed instructions. This is my favorite part of the match because navigating the field autonomously is a big undertaking in itself and I am enthralled in discovering different ways to approach this challenge.
During competitions, I am the operator and get the chance to work alongside other members of the drive team to assure that the match runs smoothly and that the robot is working as intended. Every match is a new learning experience and I get to talk to software members on teams from around the world. I am always surprised to see how different people approach similar challenges. I have enjoyed my past three years on Nemesis and I can’t wait to see what FIRST Power Up has in store for teams.
