My friends call me Rapunzel. Guess why? I refuse to cut my hair. My family and friends threaten to cut it off one day while I am sleeping.
In eighth grade, friends introduced me to the robotics team and I was immediately interested. After learning about what the team does and all of their past successes, I knew I had to join. My primary focus was working with the software team, but I have also participated in the activities of the build and web teams. With so much to learn, I participated in as much as I could.
I learned a lot from being on the team. Electronics, pneumatics, LabView were several things I never heard of before but I now know. Everyone told me about the challenge of build season but it is difficult to fully understand until you participate. It is amazing how much can be accomplished in one short six-week period. Participating in competitions was an amazing experience.
One of the best parts of the robotics team is the friendship the team develops. The technology lab became a second home. My teammate Julia Borowski and I are now referred to as J because we spent so much time working side by side. I appreciate the time and commitment of our teachers and mentors. They gave so much of themselves to teach and support us. What we did as a team is amazing and I’m so glad that I have the opportunity to be part of it. I can’t wait for competitions this year.
Besides technology, I love animals. I have been horseback riding for twelve years and aspire to own a horse of my own one day. I spend as much time riding as possible. Luckily, the build season fits into riding, since the winter months are off season for riding.
